I am from an urban family based in NY city. Their major values are independence and freedom of choice and stylish clothing, homes, and cars. My family is a small family who consider themselves survivors of the city environment. In that environment, they learned to be very cautious and not so trusting of people There have been issues of abandonment going back to my great-grandmother, who gave my grandmother up for adoption and never would tell the name of her father. And on down from there, we have seen major issues of loss or lack of connection. So I own that I have struggled with this.
